His principal interests include formation evaluation, source
rock studies, structural and regional geology in relation to
trap formation and hydrocarbon migration with particular
reference to the Middle East and Africa.


He joined the Petroleum Geology Section of the Geology
Department at Imperial College in 1980, since when he has
been organizing, and presenting in Europe, North Africa,
West Africa and Southeast Asia numerous industrial
training programs in general petroleum geology,
development geology and wire line log interpretation.
Dr. Ala has had more than 50 research and review articles
in many journals.

He was also Editor in Chief of Seventy-Five Years of
Progress in Oil Field Science and Technology (1990),
published by A A Balkema, Rotterdam, 207 p.
He is affiliated with the American Association of Petroleum
Geologists as well as the Petroleum Exploration Society
of Great Britain.
 

 
 
 
 
Dr. Mohammad Ali Ala, Chairman: Since 1994, Dr. Ala is Director
of the internationally recognized MSC Petroleum Geo-science
course at the Imperial College of London.


He was also a founder of Hydrocarbon Venture Ltd. (see below).
Dr. Ala is a graduate of Imperial College, London University.
He obtained a B.Sc. in Oil Technology in 1967 and a M.Sc. and
Ph.D. in petroleum geology. He has been actively associated with the oil industry since 1972, both as an exploration geologist with an independent oil company and as a consultant.


Over the past 30 years he has been involved in basin' analysis and prospect evaluation in many parts of the world including Africa, northwest Europe, eastern Mediterranean, the Caribbean,
